hiding vs. seeking

It’s a bit like a fire
cradled in frozen
transparent hands
A pause in the inertia
of a piece of universe
slicing through the sky
The breath before the plunge
into the wet wet water
that you’ve never wanted to drown in before
but that you dream of drowning in every night
now
This heat, this madness
curling and blackening in the
smolder of frost
This Queen
veiled and smiling
What piece would you like me to be?
A pawn, a bishop, a knight
It wouldn’t matter, would it
because they’re all moved by you
and I’ll crawl across the checkered earth
to sacrifice myself
But this heat
this conflagration
might singe your fingers
and I couldn’t stand
being the one to cause you
pain
